I (Ayo Abraham) joined southgate solicitor in October 2021 as a trainee solicitor. I was on the verge of giving up on my dream on practising as a family lawyer, however southgate solicitors took its chance on me. They saw the potential that I saw in me and gave me the opportunity to fulfil my dream and for this I will be forever grateful.

And just like that one whole year has passed! I remember the initial stages, getting an offer, a start day and doing my induction and training just like it was yesterday. Hasan and I constantly talk about how quick time has gone, both in disbelief that I am one year away from qualifying.

The work environment that southgate solicitors offers was such a shock to my system that I queried how I would ever be able to go to another law firm. southgate solicitors have catered to every part required to have a work-life balance. No pressure is placed on you and you are constantly encouraged by every team member. Everyone here is very supportive and no one makes you feel silly for asking basic questions. They offer reassurance that every question is better asked than not and I couldn’t be more grateful to the team.

The affirmation I receive from the team is out of this world. I am constantly being told that I am doing a great job which has helped me as an individual and has helped me push to be the best (trainee) lawyer I can be for my clients.

Hasan has been supportive of my journey from day one. Encouraging me to document my journey on training as a lawyer which has resulted in so many opportunities. I can go to Hasan for anything, he has a very understanding nature and has a lot of knowledge that I have been able to absorb. Hasan is truly an inspiration and I will cherish every piece of advice he has every given to me.

southgate solicitors accommodates to all kind of people, especially us Eastenders lovers. Finding a team that are willing to sit down with me at lunch to watch Eastenders further confirmed that southgate was for me. The team and I always have something to celebrate such as birthdays and the team makes sure that every birthday is celebrated which makes you feel special and important.

In the last year, I have learnt so much and I have grown as a trainee. I have developed in my confidence in drafting, advocacy and advice. The firm has also has offered me room to step aside and attend courses that have helped further my knowledge, despite my busy workload.

Joining southgate solicitors at first was very daunting for me, coming from a local authority background as a paralegal. I was apprehensive and worried about what could happen and whether I would survive, however, it has all exceeded my expectations and nullified all my concerns and worries.

Here’s to one year and one more till I qualify!
