Two leading experts in dementia research have been appointed to spearhead the national mission to tackle dementia, launched in memory of the late Dame Barbara Windsor.
Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, and Nadeem Sarwar, a senior leader at Eisai, a top pharmaceutical company, will lead the mission. Together, they will unite industry, the NHS, academia, and families living with dementia to combat this devastating illness.
The Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Mission
Launched in August 2022, the ‘Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Mission’ honours Dame Barbara and the millions affected by dementia. This national mission aims to develop innovative research tools and accelerate clinical trials in dementia and neurodegeneration, contributing to the commitment to double dementia research funding to £160 million annually by 2024-2025.
Planning for the Future: Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA)
While efforts to tackle dementia are intensifying, it’s crucial to take steps to protect our interests if our health deteriorates. Thousands of people establish Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) each year. An LPA is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to do so.
- Property and Finance LPA: Appoint someone to manage your financial affairs.
- Personal Welfare LPA: Authorize an attorney to make decisions about your healthcare and treatment.
Setting up an LPA with the help of an expert solicitor is straightforward and ensures peace of mind, knowing your interests will be protected by someone you trust.
Benefits of Lasting Powers of Attorney
Creating an LPA is a proactive step to safeguard your future. By designating a trusted individual to make decisions for you, you can ensure that your financial and personal welfare matters are handled according to your wishes. This legal document provides security and clarity, reducing the potential for disputes and stress for your loved ones.
